The Lycaons team owner, Saikawa, is only concerned with money and the return he can get on stadium seating compared to his losses from expenses such as the players salary. The story begins in the island of Okinawa, with the star player ![]() Make no mistake the series is first and foremost about the character, rather than the vehicle used to display his feats. While advantageous, and likely to increase one's enjoyment of the series, a deep knowledge of the sport of Baseball is not required. One Outs is the story of the extremist gambler Toua Tokuchi, his battle to completely crush his opponents in the Japanese Pacific Baseball League and, perhaps less importantly to the pitcher, earn a beefy salary while doing so. “Nobody wins, but I!”, the subtitle of the series, couldn’t be more accurate. With every game having the potential to either make or break him, will Tokuchi be able to outwit those who stand in his way? After Saikawa refuses to give him a reasonable salary, Tokuchi proposes a special contract: pitching an out will earn him five million yen, but giving up a run will cost him fifty million. Determined to recruit Tokuchi no matter what, Kojima places his own career on the line and defeats Tokuchi at his own specialty-One Outs.įorced to become a Lycaon, Tokuchi soon finds himself at odds with the team's owner, Tsuneo Saikawa. When Hiromichi Kojima, a legendary hitter for the Saikyou Saitama Lycaons, witnesses Tokuchi's skills firsthand, he realizes that the man might be exactly what the team needs to get out of their slump. Despite his remarkable abilities, however, Tokuchi sees the sport as nothing more than a way to make some quick money. Pitching nothing but mediocre fastballs, he has made a name for himself by attaining 499 consecutive victories in the game of "One Outs," a one-on-one showdown between a pitcher and a batter. Should you happen to hate this sport, then it may be a harder watch, unless you are appeased by the good-looking actors, in heaps here, and the beautiful, strong and far from whining leading ladies.Toua Tokuchi is a prodigy when it comes to both baseball and gambling. I'm ready to recommend this to every basketball lover. ![]() The scenes displaying street basket are awesome and the beautiful music is chosen with sense and aim. References to the battlefield, the Romans, the Greek and Sun Tzu's the art of war are scattered all over the show for the most attentive viewer to catch. Everything about it is over the top: from the athlets who fly around the court as wuxia warrior on a battlefield, to the characters who have the flavour of manga drawings, from the camera angle which plays with frozen scenes and facial expressions, to the plot itself, with its never completely serious twists. Perhaps it would be fair to add that I usually love dramas and movies dealing with sports, and this one in particular is about basketball, my favourite.īut it isn't so much the plot which makes this into a great watch: it's the direction style.
